An Lanntair - Arts Education and Outreach Policy

Aims

  1. To liase with the education sector, galleries and other partners in the Western Isles to plan and manage an Education and Outreach programme, for Lewis and Harris.
  2. To work towards an equitable spread of outreach activity across Lewis and Harris.
  3. To utilise the unique context for learning and teaching provided by the programme of exhibitions and performances at An Lanntair.
  4. To identify the existing barriers towards enjoyment and experience of the arts and create ways to overcome them.
  5. To seek to increase the understanding and appreciation of works of art, and to develop a life-long audience for art, with the ability to critically engage with visual art works.
  6. To give high priority to supporting and supplementing the development work in the school curriculum from Pre-school, through to Secondary.
  7. To extend the use of the arts within further education.
  8. To promote social inclusion within the Education and Outreach Programme, encouraging the participation of groups in society that are subject to discrimination or marginalisation.
  9. To promote contemporary Gaelic Culture within the Education and Outreach Programme.
  10. To promote artistic excellence, high standards and good practice throughout all aspects of the Education and Outreach Programme.
  11. To establish a process of monitoring and evaluation of the Education and Outreach Programme, which feeds into ongoing plans.
