Aibidil 's Nòtan eile bhon Fhearann - An Alphabet & Other Notes from the Landscape

le by Donald Urquhart

23 an Cèitean May - 28 an t-Ògmhios June 2009

Donald Urquhart explores the links between the names of trees and plants and the names of the letters in the old Gaelic alphabet.

Edinburgh-based artist Donald Urquhart is widely considered to be one of the most significant artists working in Scotland today. At the heart of his work is an appreciation of the landscape and a need to respond to it. His work can be described as reductive and formal, but it always tries to engage the viewer in a kind of quiet poetic dialogue.

Much of his recent work has taken the form of permanent site-specific installations in which he as responded to a wide variety of landscapes. These commissions have taken him from Tiree to Cumbria and Kyoto in Japan.

He is guest curator for a major Art in the Landscape project for 2010 at the Zuiderzee Museum in the Netherlands and is developing work for several forthcoming exhibitions.
