Foyer exhibition of photographs from 17 December. This is Mairi’s first solo exhibition with An Lanntair. Mairi was born in Glasgow of Lewis parents and comes back to Lewis year after year to capture images of the islands. Through December and into January you can see a selection of Mairi’s beautiful and emotive work in the foyer at An Lanntair.
What inspires Mairi is “The challenge of capturing the moment when dramatic, beautiful or unusual elements combine. I’m drawn to old ruins and the way of life they represented. Many of the ruins I have photographed have long since disappeared. The photographer’s patience and perseverance are developed and frequently tested by the wind, rain and the midge. Whilst capturing the moment can sometimes be frustrating, there are times when you are in the right place at the right time.” |
