Samuel Johnson and his biographer Boswell were the first of the London literati to set foot in the untamed Highlands. Johnson once said that a Scotsman’s best prospect was the road to England. What he/they think 230 years later in the 21st Century in this era of Caledonian Government is the subject of Late but Live, a kind of sit-down stand-up set-up. ‘Confoundedly perplexing. More brandy sirrah!’ The BBC used to do a Play for Today. Dràma fad Latha is a Play in a Day. This all day workshop tests the creative powers of a young theatre troupe as they present a play – written, dramatised and performed - from scratch. From breakfast to supper. And just to show that anything you can do….The Kaleidoscope Music festival with Music Project Hebrides brings you Swing, Senior Talent Showcase and a Cello Recital over 3 days & a night. It’s quite a set-list. |

If you go by the Oscars, the highlight is There will be Blood an extraordinary depiction of obsessive greed with an Oscar-winning - central performance by Daniel Day-Lewis. See it. And also, The Assassination of Jesse James. The western will not die but this could not be further from the classic image of the genre. It’s a profound and elegiac study of hero worship myth-creation. And Brad Pitt’s in it. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is the other 5 star critically-rated movie this month. A true story, the central character is locked in the diving bell of his own body following a stroke and communicates by the flutter of his eyelashes through which he writes a book. Otherwise there are questions raised and answered. Is Nicolas Cage a National Treasure? Find out in this movie. Arctic Tale? You’ve seen what penguins do at the South Pole, now watch polar bears and walrus at the North Pole tackle their own problems like finding food and bringing up a family. The Bucket List features Jack Nicolson and Morgan Freeman, who are about to kick the bucket and go on a road trip. And Jumper has nothing to do with knitting. It’s about being able to leap from one dimension to another. Handy for tricky situations and tight spots. |
