The Obsidian Isle by Gayle Chong Kwan A' mair gu Running until 6 an t-Iuchar July
The Obsidian Isle is a fictional island created by Gayle Chong Kwan, which houses Scotland's lost and destroyed buildings and places - from structures removed during the Highland Clearances, locations destroyed during the 2nd World War, to buildings torn down to make way for new developments. Inspired by landscape elements found in the controversial Ossian poems, the blind 3rd century poet that James Macpherson claimed to have discovered in the 18th Century, The Obsidian Isle comprises a series of large-format photographs, tactile photographs, mirror-works, maps, a publication and sculptural pieces, and was developed through a residency, symposium and sensory memory workshops.
